Hagar
Cambodia
Trafficking in women and often forced prostitution are major problems in Cambodia. Hagar International projects give women the opportunity to learn a trade and gain sustainable income. In this way they can break out of the downward spiral they have become trapped in.
Return to Sender supports Hagar in providing professional training courses for these women. Last year, 94 students followed a training course, many of them to become tailors or cooks. More than half of them have already found a job or started their own business.
In addition, the organisation creates job opportunities by starting up and operating various companies itself. One of those enterprises is a sewing atelier that employs 32 women and 5 men. They buy used food bags from Vietnam at the local market in Phnom Penh, and make colourful accessories out of them in this atelier. Return to Sender sells these bags in the HEMA collection.
